Chocolate Banana Almond Butter Smoothie (dairy free!)

Every morning my girls beg me to make them this chocolate banana almond butter smoothie. It is so delicious, and dairy free! I always feel like the only food my kids want to eat is dairy products. Discovering yummy treats that are healthy and dairy free is a huge plus in my book.


Ingredients:

8 oz almond milk

2 Tbsp almond butter

2 Tbsp cocoa powder (I love Penzeys high fat cocoa)

1 Tbsp maca powder (optional)

1 Tbsp flax seeds

1-2 Tbsp raw honey

1/2 frozen banana


Directions:

Put in high powered blender, blend until smooth. Drink right away.




Flax seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and lignans. They are so good for you and I try to sneak them into as many things as I can for an additional boost of nutrition. I mainly put them in pancakes, waffles, smoothies or muffins. Ground flax seeds can also be used as a substitute for eggs if you add water and let them sit for a minute (1 Tbsp flaxseeds ground to 3 Tbsp water replaces 1 egg). My mom always used to make me drink flax seed tea when I was young which was absolutely disgusting, so don't do that.
